The Wenqu Star Classic originated from the ancient Chinese belief in the Wenqu Star. Wenqu Star is regarded as the star in charge of literary fortune, talent and official fame. It was first associated with Zhang Yazi, a heroic figure of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and later was honored as Emperor Wenchang. In ancient times, students often prayed for the protection of the Wenqu Star in order to pass the imperial examinations smoothly. The prayer Sutra was burned to express the devout heart towards the Wenqu Star Sutra.
